Is Concurrent I/O (CIO) available on Linux?

Hi Guys, I just wondering if any of the AIX gurus with some exposure to linux Redhat can tell me whether in linux ( Red Hat or OpenSuse ) we have a similar option/capability like the CIO (Concurrent I/O) which is currently available on AIX. The reason I’m asking is because in the past we suffered...

What sounds like DRM is really a cool open source journalism tool. That’s my take-away from Associated Press to build news registry to protect content — a press release that went up on 23 July. After you get past the opening paragraphs, which are pure paranoidese…

The forthcoming standard for the object-oriented language C++ will not be released before 2010. It will also lack the planned ‘concepts’ mechanism. This is according to information in a Dr. Dobbs Journal article by C++’s inventor, Bjarne Stroustrup. Concepts have been "decoupled" – or in Stroustrup’s words "yanked out" – by the ISO group responsible for the standard, Working Group 21.

There are more than a few of us who would be overjoyed to see Open Source take over the world. For the geeks at NASA, though, the world is not enough. Open Source is nothing new for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration — Linux Journal looked at Linux use in NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratories way back in May 2000. The Open Source wonder runs its Colombia supercomputer, and will even power mans return to the moon.

To train the next generation of professional journalists, Arizona State University built a state-of-the-art facility for its prestigious Walter Cronkite School of Journalism. There, student journalists write, shoot, edit, and broadcast their own stories on Mac computers using Final Cut Pro. “Among the most critical decisions we made,” says News Director Mark Lodato, “was choosing Final Cut Pro as our editing tool, and I don’t think we could be more pleased.”

FreeBSD compatibility with Solaris UFS filesystem?

Hi, I’m new to BSD and would like to create a dual-boot between Solaris Express Community Edition and FreeBSD.

I would just like to know if the Solaris UFS file system can be written to by BSD?

I know that BSD uses UFS2, but I’m hoping that it is backwards compatible with UFS1 provided that Sun haven’t or BSD for that matter haven’t put any proprietary extensions on the fs…..

Also since I have Debian Linux on my machine right now is it recommended to write to ext3 file system either? I know that ext2 is compatible and I’ve read that ext3 can be written to but then you don’t take advantage of the journal?

Any advice would be great!!

I’ve tried another forum which told me to use the BSD mailing list, I tried the mailing list and it seems to be dead….?

This is my last chance before either making or breaking the system so I would be ever so grateful for any responses :)

Kind regards
